Sacramento Credit Union is seeking candidates who have the ability to provide assistance in several HR functions for our HR Generalist position in downtown Sacramento.  The HR Generalist provides first-line support to employees and managers on HR policies, processes, and transactions. The HR Generalist plays a critical role in ensuring consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency across HR service areas including employee relations, benefits, leave management, onboarding/offboarding, HRIS administration, regulatory compliance, and policy interpretation. This position requires discretion, initiative, problem solving and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization with limited supervision.



RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

  • Provide timely and accurate responses to employee and manager inquiries related to HR policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Manage, document, and respond to general employee relations concerns, including investigations, while supporting the consistent application of policies and procedures. Escalate and consult with VP Human Resources as needed on complex issues.
  • Administer benefits programs such as health, dental, vision, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, supplemental insurance, 401(k) and employee assistance program; includes distributing benefits materials to employees, responding to inquiries regarding eligibility and coverage limits of benefit plans, directing employees to proper channels for resolution and reconciling invoices.  Oversees COBRA administration.
  • Manage all aspects of employee leave administration.
  • Coordinate management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, sexual harassment, and other required training programs.
  • Assist managers with the recruiting process, including writing job descriptions, advertising, interviewing, job-related assessments, reference-checking, selecting, hiring and onboarding.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and internal procedures. Maintain proper documentation and support audits related to required records.
  • Participate in special projects assigned by the VP, including the design and documentation of process improvements, creation or revision of procedures, planning and execution of events, development of metrics, and cross-functional HR initiatives to support operational goals.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of HR knowledgebase articles and FAQs to support employee self-service.
  • Manage workers’ compensation insurance program. Files claims with carrier, maintains accident information and monitors progress of claim.
  • Prepare monthly HR metrics reports.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or other related field or completion of HR certification program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in an HR Generalist or similar role in the State of California. HR experience with a credit union or financial institution is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive company and employee information.  Well-versed in using discretion.  Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Demonstrated independent decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills.  Strong initiative and consistently follows through on commitments with accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Working knowledge of software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written; maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the credit union.
